GIULIANA CUNÉAZ (IT)

Giuliana Cunéaz was born in Aosta, Italy, and now lives and works in Milan. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin and in her work she gravitates between various art media, from video installations and sculpture to painting and painted screens.
Cunéaz began exhibiting her work in well-known public and private exhibitions in Italy and abroad at the start of the 1990s, when she embarked on an exploration of form and video-experimentation.
Giulianina’s earliest work conveyed her personal treatment of minimalist language evolved from Arte Povera (note: an art style that developed in Italy in the 1960s, battling against convention and for the individuality of artistic expression).
In her work from the late 1990s she dealt generally with musical composition, experimenting with the imaginary body and the themes of complexity and identity.
In 2005 she began focusing on exploring 3D animation. Works that follow this vein include the series Inner Flux, which Giuliana Cunnéaz is exhibiting in Prague at Vernon City Gallery.
Cunéaz has exhibited at festivals in Italy, Brazil, Hungary, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
In 2008 this important artist published a book that covers more than two decades of her work.

INNER FLUX

Giuliana Cunéaz identified an entire new dimension in her work – natural elements updated via 3D images and using nanotechnology.
However, the technological device obviously does not stand alone but is part of an experiment in which the artist obtains data from the world of science and nano-science. She then transforms the data into a kind of virtual landscape that subsequently in turn impacts real data.

This method was the starting point in works like Occulta naturae (2006) and The Growing Garden (2007–2008), where the motional virtual images exist side by side with painted elements. Consequently, what we are looking at is a sophisticated elaboration in which art continues to be an independent, individual way in which to examine the sophisticated laws of physics and to reinterpret the entire environment around us.
Inner Flux is an exhibition that presents the latest work of this type by Cunéaz dating from 2007 (Spores and Pollens Grains, 2008 (Nanofungus, Nanoparticles and Dandelion Clock, Nanomushroom, Spyrogira and Great Spotted Woodpecker, King Birds of Paradise and Tobacco) and 2009 (The God Particle, Matter Waves).
