Linda Čihařová

Linda Čihařová (1982) lives and works in Prague, where she studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. She also studied at FAMU in Prague, the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and the Academy Beeldene Kunste in Maastricht, and she participated in an artistic residency at the Egon Schiele Centre in Český Krumlov.
Linda Čihařová’s work is broad in scope. The artist combines new media and traditional forms of artistic expression, and formally she constantly moves between different art genres. However, nature, the landscape, and its relationship to its inhabitants continue to be the unifying element and primary source of inspiration in her work. She projects are based on land art and concept art, but she is also inspired by scientific methods and research on natural processes.

Migromat

Creatures, whatever environment they dwell in, leave behind a record of their presence. They consume, multiply, adapt the landscape to their needs, and leave their bodies for others to live off.
These phenomena are manifest. However, can a place be altered merely by our presence or movement in it? What do bright points flashing through space mean? Just as living species migrate, various types of landscapes do to, moving from continent to continent or just a few metres along, and often this occurs thanks to the presence and action of other live organisms. If for some reason these organisms cannot live in their territory they are in, they migrate. And sometimes the landscape can migrate with them.
The installation Migromat draws on the kinetic energy of your movement, which when repeated many times over can set in motion the subtle process of transforming a space.
